The Tea Planter's Wife ~ Book Review

I have been wanting to read "The Tea Planter's Wife" by Dinah Jefferies for a while now. And when given the opportunity to read it, I jumped at the chance. It has been a really long time since I have read a book that has captivated me & this one did just that! From the Foreword on...I couldn't stop thinking about it when I wasn't reading it. The detail of the period in time, the place, the people...It draws you in in a way that is unexpected.
From Gwen the 19yr old new bride who moves to an unknown land from England to be with her new husband, Laurence, to the mystery that surrounds his life there. He is so warm an attentive at first, but soon turns cold. Leaving Gwen feeling more alone than ever in this new foreign place. The characters that make up this story are intriguing. Like Laurence's sister, Verity who tends to complicate things. This book is full of drama, plus the clash of the stiff upper lip of the English with the extreme cultural differences in Ceylon. It's a "can't put down" kinda book! No wonder it's an international best seller!

I received this book from Blogging for Books for my honest review.
