Day 7 in the study on our gifts with Creating In Faith with Jamie Dougherty.
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might, for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going. Ecclesiastes 9:10
During this study, I thought a lot of about gifts, talents, creativity. And I often hear people say "Oh, you are so creative." I hope that through my little journey of sharing these pages that people take away this....It's not about the fact that I can draw, paint, have nice handwriting...But that we each are creative in our own way. Not everyone was born to splash color on a canvas, to fill the air with song, to have a way with words. Those things are always seen as "creativity", but we each have our own unique ability that is creative. Like my husband. He knows his way about a soundboard like no one that I have ever seen before (I may be biased). But he's not just a church "soundman." This is his passion. He does it for a living. It's his heart & his form of creativity. My Mom is a seamstress extraordinaire! She can take fabric & turn into something magical. That's her gift. I have a friend that can organize & label like a ninja. That's her gift. While another friend enjoys buying little trinkets that remind them of others & sends "happy mail." Yet another friend has a way with people. She can see their hurt & help bring solace where it is needed. We all posses some form of creativity & it may not be something that is seen with the human eye, but felt with the heart. When we were created, God gave us all an ability that is uniquely ours. We all can't be good at everything. I'm also learning in my 39th year on this earth, that there are some gifts yet to be developed inside of us. We don't even know exist. Maybe being put under the flame will expose them. Being sensitive to the Holy Spirit & hearing His whisper will bring them to light. Or stepping out of our comfort zones will make them flourish. So, don't say you aren't "creative." You are in your own way. And just maybe there is a hidden talent in there that God hasn't let you open yet. You may have some secret ability that is just waiting to be exposed. Let your creativity flow! It takes courage! Be brave!
