Homemade Laundry Detergent

I have been thinking about trying to make my own laundry detergent for awhile. I've seen several friends post about making their own & I was curious, but just wasn't completely sure about it. Then the other day a friend posted about it & for some reason I decided to take the plunge.

Here is the recipe I followed....

1 large box of...
Baking soda
Washing soda
3 bars of Fels Naptha soap (grated with a cheese grater)
1 thing of Purex Crystals

Use 1/4 cup per load.

One reason I was hesitate to make it, was I LOVE the smell of laundry detergent & was afraid this wouldn't smell good. I was wrong! Adding the Purex Crystals makes it wonderful. My house smelled awesome while I was mixing it up. I haven't used it yet, since all of my laundry is done. But I can't wait to try it out!

Do you make your own laundry detergent? Have you thought about it before?

  1. I"m most impressed by your comment that you haven't used it yet b/c all of your laundry is done!! I didn't know that could happen (all of someone's laundry being done!)

I've thought about making my own, but have never done it.

We bought a new washer and dryer last year and we have to use the high efficiency detergent, so I'm not sure I could make our own or not.

    1. Hahahaha!!!! Yes! All of my laundry is done. I have a "laundry day." I can't stand having laundry going everyday. I fold & put away each load as it's done too. :)

My friend that posted about it, had others comment saying they make their own also & they have HE machines. It's worth investigating. It will save ya tons of money in the long run if you can.

    2. Well, of course.....Not ALL the laundry is done. What we are wearing it dirty! Haha!

Thanks for commenting!!!!
